"Worship of Lord Shiva" on the occasion of auspicious Shivaratri (March
11, 2021)

"The formal worship consists of bathing the Lord. Lord Shiva is
considered to be the Form of Light (which the Shiva Lingam represents).
He is burning with the fire of austerity. He is therefore best
propitiated with cool bathing. While bathing the Lingam the devotee
prays: “O Lord! I will bathe Thee with water, milk, etc. Do Thou kindly
bathe me with the milk of wisdom. Do Thou kindly wash me of all my sins,
so that the fire of worldliness which is scorching me may be put out
once for all, so that I may be one with Thee—the One alone without a
second.”

Offer this inner worship to Lord Shiva daily: “I worship the jewel of my
Self, the Shiva residing in the Lotus of my heart. I bathe Him with the
water of my pure mind brought from the river of faith and devotion. I
worship Him with the fragrant flowers of Samadhi—all this so that I may
not be born again in this world.”

Here is another formula for the supreme worship of the Lord: “O Shiva!
you are my Self. My mind is Parvati. My Pranas are your servants. My
body is your house. My actions in this world are your worship. My sleep
is Samadhi. My walk is circumambulation of you. My speech is your
prayer. Thus do I offer all that I am to you."- Sri Swami Sivananda <<

Early Morning Meditation talks from "Ponder These Truths"  by  Sri Swami
Chidananda

  " The Immanence of GOD"

"/Eko devah sarvabhuteshu gudhah sarvavyapi sarvabhutantaratma,
karmadhyakshah sarvabhutadhivasah /(God, Who is one only, is hidden in
all beings. He pervades all and He is the inner soul of all beings. He
presides over all actions and He dwells in all beings). Three times the
indwelling presence of God has been brought out in this single
verse—/sarvabhuteshu gudhah (hidden in all beings)/,
/sarvabhutantaratma/ (inner self of all beings), /sarvabhutadhivasah/
(immanent in all beings). /Sarvavyapi (all-pervading)/ only once, but
the indwelling presence thrice within a single verse. Here also: /saman
sarveshu bhuteshu tishthantam paramesvaram/ (the Supreme Lord is equally
present in all beings). Again, twice that I am within all creatures:
/ahamatma gudakesa sarvabhutasayasthitah, aham adischa madhyam cha
bhutanam anta eva cha/ (I am the Self, O Arjuna, seated in the hearts of
all beings; I am the beginning, the middle and also the end of all beings)."

"Thus it is that immanence is key to divinity. Awareness of God’s
presence within and without, in all beings, in all creatures, in all
nature becomes the key, the secret of living in the awareness of the
Yoga of the eleventh chapter of the Bhagavad Gita, the Yoga of the first
verse of the Isopanishad. What more can I say? Be aware, be aware of
God, aware of your relationship to Him, and make your life sublime and
divine and attain the supreme, grand goal of all spiritual aspiration,
of all spiritual life, of all spiritual sadhana, of all spiritual
living, the grand goal of God-consciousness and divine perfection and
liberation. all beings; I am the beginning, the middle and also the end
of all beings)."

Learning of  "Jeevan Yog" from a Yoga Acharya Sri Swami Adhyatmananda
Through TV episodes of "Jeevan Yoga" Serie
<http://divyajivan.org/Jeevan%20Yoga/Index.htm>s by Doordarshan Girnar

Surya Namaskara or Sun Salutation ("salute to the sun"), is a common
sequence of Hatha Yoga asanas. Its origins lie in a worship of Surya,
the Hindu Solar deity. This sequence of movements and poses can be
practised on varying levels of awareness, ranging from that of physical
exercise in various styles, to a complete sadhana, which incorporates
asana, pranayama, mantra and chakra meditation.

The physical base of the practice links together twelve asanas in a
dynamically performed series. These asanas are ordered so that they
alternately stretch the spine backwards and forwards. When performed in
the usual way, each asana is moved into with alternate inhalation and
exhalation (except for the sixth asana where the breath is held in
external suspension). A full round of Surya namaskara is considered to
be two sets of the twelve poses with a change in the second set to
moving the opposite leg first through the series. <<  Read More>>

*Philosophy of Symbolism*

Lord Siva represents the destructive aspect of Brahman. That portion of
Brahman that is enveloped by /Tamo-Guna-Pradhana/ Maya is Lord Siva who
is the all-pervading Isvara and who also dwells in Mount Kailas. He is
the Bhandara or store-house for wisdom. Siva minus Parvati or Kali or
Durga is /Nirguna Brahman/ Himself. With Maya-Parvati He becomes
the/Saguna/ Brahman for the purpose of pious devotion of His devotees.
Lord Siva is the Lord of Ascetics and Lord of /Yogins/, robed in space
/(Digambara)./

His /Trisul /(trident) that is held in His right hand represents the
three /Gunas—Sattva, Rajas and Tamas./ That is the emblem of
Sovereignty. He wields the world through these three /Gunas/. The
/Damaru/ in His left hand represents the /Sabda//Brahman/. It represents
OM from which all languages are formed. It is He who formed the Sanskrit
language out of the /Damaru./

The crescent moon indicates that He has controlled the mind perfectly.
The flow of the Ganga represents the nectar of Immortality. Elephant
represents symbolically pride. His wearing the skin of the elephant
denotes that He has controlled pride. Tiger represents lust; His sitting
on tiger’s skin indicates that He has conquered lust. His holding a deer
on one hand indicates that He has removed the Chanchalata (tossing) of
the mind. Deer jumps from one place to another swiftly. His wearing of
serpents denotes wisdom and eternity. Serpents live for a large number
of years. He is /Trilochana/, the three-eyed One, in the /centre/ of
whose forehead is the third eye, the eye of wisdom.

/‘Hoam’/ is the /Bija Akshara/ of Lord Siva.

He is /Sivam/ (auspicious, Subham), /Sundaram/ (beautiful), /Kantam/
(effulgent). /“Santam Sivam Advaitam”/ (Mandukya Upanishad).

I bow with folded hands crores of times at the lotus-feet of that Lord
Siva who is non-dual, who is the Adhishthana, or support for the world
and all minds, who is Sat-Chit-Ananda, who is the Ruler, the
/Antaryamin/, the /Sakshi/ (silent witness) for everything, who is
self-effulgent, self-existent and self-contained/(Pari-purna)/, who is
the remover of the primitive /Avidya/ and who is the Adi-Guru or
Parama-Guru or Jagad-Guru.

That Lord Siva I am in essence. /Sivoham, Sivoham, Sivoham/ - Sri Swami
