"Swami Sivananda- Personified Synthesis of Dynamism and Renunciation"
Remembering */ Sannyasa Diksha /* day of Holy Master Sri Swami
Sivananda *( June 1, 2010 ) *
Our holy Gurudev Swami Sivanandaji Maharaj’s act of /tyaga/ and
/sannyasa/ carries the message: "O man! Give up thy little ‘I’ and thy
petty selfish life; and let thy selfless life flower into cosmic love,
world brotherhood and service unto all. Give up thy little self, and
give yourself in body, mind and spirit to the whole world. To renounce
is verily to offer yourself as a gift unto the noble cause of human
welfare." Such was the exemplary life of our holy Gurudev! His
renunciation represents, as it were, a fertile seed out of which has
sprung forth a great tree of his later Sannyasa life, full of the
flowers, fruits and the shade-giving foliage of a many-sided
Lokasangraha or selfless service unto humanity upon the physical,
mental, moral and spiritual fields of modern man’s life. The giving up
of his secular life has come to mean the bestowal of a lofty new Divine
Life to countless thousands. The power that sprang out of his
renunciation has outspread into the world, and has brought new life,
hope, solace, light, strength, joy and inspiration to literally
countless millions of souls. His renunciation can rightly be said to be
an offering to God, to appease the spiritual hunger of His soul-famished
children. It has indeed become transformed into the spirit of Divine
Life to pervade the modern world in the form of a divine urge, a divine
impulse towards virtue, goodness and godliness.
In renunciation lies the end of all strife and hatred. In renunciation
lies the source of true peace and progress. By his life, the modern
Maharshi has given to humanity the new law of welfare: "O modern man!
Know ye that renunciation is the law of life. It is the path that leads
to friendliness, cooperation and unity. Renounce selfishness, greed,
hatred and egoism. Embrace love, humility, contentment, and charity. You
will have the Kingdom of Heaven on this earth" May the Master’s radiant
life inspire one and all! - Swami Chidananda << More>>

Man and His Mind
Radiant Atman! Man is man because he has a mind. Thinking, reasoning,
feeling, that alone makes man. If he has no mind he is an animal. But
mind can make a man a beast also. Mind can make a man a demon. Because
if the mind is not made /sattvic/,/ /if it is not governed by an
awakened, discriminating, ever alert, vigilant and keenly enquiring
intellect, then mind becomes the greatest problem
You must be wise, you must be alert. You must live and move through each
day of your life wakefully, wisely. That is the hallmark of a
/sadhak/—wisdom, wakefulness, alertness, discrimination, selection and
rejection. Yes, this is the great necessity; otherwise, mind can bring
about a downfall. /Mana eva manushyanam karanam bandhamokshayoh/—mind
alone is the cause of bondage and liberation of human beings.
Know your inside. Know what part mind plays. Know the great important
part the intellect must play. Give attention to the intellect. Cultivate
the intellect through /svadhyaya/, reflection and /satsang/./ /These are
the three ways: daily study; daily introspection and reflection;
/satsang/./ /Time and again the spiritual history of India recounts the
downfall of various seekers through lack of /svadhyaya/,/ /lack of
/satsang/, lack of discrimination.
Helped by /satsang/,/ svadhyaya /and discrimination, intellect becomes
our friend. Mind is not our friend. /Chitta /is neither friend nor foe.
It contains stored wisdom; it contains stored perversion, evil also. It
contains both. What is important is how you manage to gradually purify
it, what you take out of it. First let the intellect deal with it and
then only let it percolate into the mind. If /chitta /and mind are
directly connected—finished, you are lost. The /buddhi /must be there
between the / chitta /and the mind. Then your /antahkarana /is in a
proper situation. Think of all these very essential and important
things. Be a /buddhisali/,/ buddhiman /(one endowed with proper
intellect). Therefore we say: “/dhiyo yo nah prachodayat/—May He
illumine my intellect. Illumine my intellect with Divinity, O
Sarasvati.” - Swami Chidananda << More>>

*Yoga Learning through a book , " Yoga , A way of Life " of Swami
Adhyatmananda*
Primary & Main Yogasana (Yoga Postures)
The Physical techniques of Yoga are the stepping stones to meditation.
According to Patanjali, Yoga is the cessation of the modifications of
the mind. In the beginning the primary prerequisite to peace of mind is
posture. Yogasana practiced to gain steady posture, health and lightness
in the body. All Yoga postures are intended to directly or indirectly
quiet the mind. The majority of Asana have been devised to build up
different parts of the body and to develop the strength required by the
more advanced Physical disciplines. The purpose of the yogasana is to
recondition the system, both mind and body, and to develop the nervous
and glandular systems. The different Yoga postures have been devised to
bring a rich supply of blood to the brain and to the various parts of
the spinal column. The yogasana work by stretching, bending and twisting
the spinal column in different directions to promote the health of the
nerves. When the body is purified, Prana (vital energy) can be conserved
and the individual becomes healthy and conscious. << More>>

*So Says Sri Swami Sivananda *
Conscience is a form of Truth. It is the knowledge of our own acts and
feelings, as right or wrong. It is a sensitive balance to weigh actions.
It is a guiding voice from within.
Snse of duty is conscience . Scrupulousness is conscience. Conscience is
like a silent witness and a slienr teacher. It is the light of the Soul
that is burning within the chambers of your heart. Conscience grows
through experience.
