Deepavali - A festival of Light Joy & Illumination ( Oct 28, 2016 - Oct
31, 2016)

"Celebrate the real Deepavali by living in Brahman, and enjoy the
eternal bliss of the soul. He who Himself sees all but whom no one
beholds, who illumines the intellect, the sun, the moon and the stars
and the whole universe but whom they cannot illumine, He indeed is
Brahman, He is the inner Self.

The Sun does not shine there, nor do the moon and the stars, nor do
lightnings shine and much less fire. All the lights of the world cannot
be compared even to a ray of the inner light of the Self. Merge yourself
in this light of lights and enjoy the supreme Deepavali ".

"May you all attain full inner illumination! May the supreme light of
lights enlighten your understanding! May you all attain the
inexhaustible spiritual wealth of the Self! May you all prosper
gloriously on the material as well as spiritual planes!" - Swami
Sivananda << More>> <http://divyajivan.org/Diwali/index.htm>

Early Morning Meditation Talks from Ponder These Truths by Sri Swami
Chidananda

"Yoga & Vedanta"
Blessed Divinities! Sadhaks and seekers! From your ancient, effulgent
past, as your heritage and birthright, you have inherited two great
treasures—Yoga and Vedanta. Vedanta is divine wisdom, knowledge of the
Divine Reality, the great Reality. Yoga is the science of entering into
a conscious relationship with that knowledge, experiencing that
knowledge, realising that knowledge.

The quintessence, the principal essence of these two great treasures is
the proclamation of Vedanta that you are divine. You are not human, you
are not limited, you are not imperfect, you are essentially divine. The
truth about you is divinity. Your human nature is a passing, temporary
added factor to your identity. It is, however, an invaluable added
factor, an unparalleled, unique, most precious added factor.

Yoga and Vedanta form the two ingredients that go to make up the divine
life of service, devotion, meditation and Self-realisation. Boldly
Vedanta proclaims and wants you to know: “ahamatma nirakarah sarvavyapi
svabhavatah (I am the Atman that is formless, all-pervading by nature).”
“Beyond sense, beyond mind, I am the quintessence of luminous wisdom
consciousness”—this is the awareness that Vedanta grants you and wants
you to practise. And Yoga is continuous, unbroken, conscious, purposeful
contact and relationship, ever progressive relationship with the Divine.

/Yantra Pujan <http://divyajivan.org/ashtalakshmi/sri-yantra.htm>

The hymn was written in the 5th century BC by Adi Sankara, a revered
Hindu philosopher and theologian. Sankara took Sanyasa (renunciation) at
the age of eight. One day, as a young boy, he was begging for alms to
prepare his lunch and he went to the house of a very poor Brahmin lady
to beg. The lady was upset because there was nothing edible in the
house. After searching the house once again she found one amla(Amalak,
gooseberry) fruit. She hesitantly offered it to Sankara. He was moved
after seeing the plight of the woman and sang 21 hymns praising Goddess
Lakshmi. The Goddess was so pleased that she appeared before him and
asked him why he has remembered her. He asked the Goddess to grant
riches to the poor woman. The Goddess first refused to do so because the
lady had not done any work for charity in her previous birth and it is
not possible to change one's fate. Sankara told the Goddess that she is
the only one who is capable of changing the fate of someone by erasing
or changing the writings of the future made by Lord Brahma. The Goddess
was so pleased that she instantly showered the Brahmin lady's house with
goose berries made of pure gold...........Complete Sanskrit text with

Learning of "Jeevan Yog" from a Yoga Acharya Swami Adhyatmananda
Through TV episodes of"Jeevan Yoga"
<http://divyajivan.org/Jeevan%20Yoga/Index.htm> Series by Doordarshan
Girnar

Primary Yogasana (Yoga Postures) - The Physical techniques of Yoga are
the stepping stones to meditation. According to Patanjali, Yoga is the
cessation of the modifications of the mind.
In the beginning the primary prerequisite to peace of mind is posture.
Yogasana practiced to gain steady posture, health and lightness in the
body. All Yoga postures are intended to directly or indirectly quiet the
mind. The majority of Asana have been devised to build up different
parts of the body and to develop the strength required by the more
advanced Physical disciplines. The purpose of the yogasana is to
recondition the system, both mind and body, and to develop the nervous
and glandular systems. The different Yoga postures have been devised to
bring a rich supply of blood to the brain and to the various parts of
the spinal column. The yogasana work by stretching, bending and twisting
the spinal column in different directions to promote the health of the
nerves. When the body is purified, Prana (vital energy) can be conserved
and the individual becomes healthy and conscious. << More>>

Gitamrutam

Yoga is restraining the mind stuff (chitta) from taking various forms
(vritti)

Perform action, O Arjuna, being steadfast in Yoga, abandoning attachment
and balanced in success and failure! Evenness of mind is called Yoga ( 2:48)

Endowed with wisdom (evenness of mind), one casts off in this life both
good and evil deeds; therefore, devote thyself to Yoga; Yoga is skill in
action. (2:50)
