It
is said that before departing from this planet earth Lord Krishna had seen that
all his near and dear ones should leave this planet earth for the heavenly
abode. We are experiencing it that in front of the most worshipful and revered
Guru Bhagavan Shri Swami Chidanandaji Maharaj one after another the most of his
beloved spiritual brothers are departing in last two decades, to name a few,
revered Shri swami Venkateshanandaji Maharaj, Sri Swami Nadbrahmanandaji
Maharaj, Sri Swami Yagnavalkyanandaji Maharaj (Bapuji), Sri Swami
Chinmayanandaji Maharaj, Sri Swami Krishnanandaji Maharaj, Sri Swami Dayanandaji
Maharaj, Sri Swami Devanandaji Maharaj, Sri Swami Vishnudevanandaji Maharaj, Dr.
Hridayananda Mataji and Dr.Kutti Mataji and so on. And now we have lost a
stalwart, a great son (Sun) of mother India as well as a shining star of
Sadgurudev Sri Swami Shivanandaji Maharaj’s divine family.
In turbulent times of early sixties when United State was undergoing major cultural upheaval, the youngsters were drawn to him for lasting peace and it was revered Yogiraj Shri Swami Satchidanandaji Maharaj gave comfort to the innumerous thirsting souls. He brought them in confidence, shared his love and affection. He taught them yoga, pranayama, meditation and gave them a new hope of renewed refined life. His ashram became a center of universal Love and brotherhood. Satchidananda ashram is known all over the world as an abode of interfaith harmony.
Swami Satchidanandaji Maharaj was the founder of the Integral Yoga Institute. He
was a leader in the interfaith movement. His motto, "Truth is One, Paths
are Many," was an integral part of his teachings. LOTUS (Light of Truth
Universal Shrine) in Yogaville, VA, where all people of different faith come and
meditate, is a prominent landmark of interfaith movement.
For forty years revered Shri Swamiji Maharaj has been one of the most
respected international ambassadors of Hinduism, meeting and sharing the
advaitic vision of mutual harmony and mutual love with world‘s statesmen and
leaders of other faiths. In recognition of a life time service to dharma, yoga,
harmony among men and spreading the teachings of Atma Jnana, Self- knowledge,
Hinduism today selected him as 1994 Hindu of the year.
He was one of the foremost disciples of Sadgurudev H.H. Shri Swami
Sivanandaji Maharaj and twin spiritual brothers of H.H. Shri Swami
Chidanandaji Maharaj, because both of them ordained in order of monastic life on
the holy Guru Purnima day, some 53 years ago.
Practically every alternate year he used to visit India and he was very
kind and generous to grace and bless the Sivananda Ashram, Ahmedabad on the eve
of the New Year 1999. We will ever cherish the sweet memories of His Holy
Presence at the ashram.
Revered Shri Swamiji Maharaja’s contribution to the mankind in the
field of betterment of health is remarkable. It is he who inspired a well-known
cardiologist Dr. Dean Ornish who is well known for his work in the field of
reversal of coronary artery disease. Because of Swamiji’s constant guidance,
Dr. Ornish utilized Integral Yoga System to bypass the bypass. This sublime
knowledge of yore has become a boon and blessings to cardiac patients around the
globe.
To meet Rev. Swamiji Maharaj used to be memorable event. He was like a
magnet that attracted young and old, known and unknown and showered all of them
with his love divine. He was like a honeycomb. From head to foot he oozed
nectar only. Though physically he may not be with us but he will remain
active and alive in the hearts of his disciples and devotees. He will keep on
functioning through each brick which he has soiled and toiled with his sweat for
establishment of his mission for the mankind – the Lotus, all
faith temple, the Integral Yoga institute,
Sivananda hall, numbers of brothers and sisters of Swami Satchidanandaji order
and finally the Chidambaram.
