114th BIRTHDAY ANNIVERSARY OF H.H. SRI SWAMI SIVANANDAJI MAHARAJ

The 8th September will be Solemnly observed as the sacred 114th Birthday of H.H. Sri Swami Sivanandaji Maharaj. The Programme will commence with prayer and group meditation in the brahma-muhurta (early in the morning). Holy Paduka Pooja will be performed at Sri Astha Lakshmi Bhavan, discourses and satsang will be conducted consisting of Sankirtan and Bhajan etc. 

Sri Swami Adhyatmanandaji Maharaj will be speaking on the occasion to bring home to the minds of the devotees, the significance of the mission of Sri Gurudev, which was to awaken man from the slumber of materialism, atheism, agnosticism and make him come to an awareness of the existence of a higher life. His teaching coupled with His personal life and His gospel is really a statement of His own life. He insisted that there should be a harmony in the growth of the human personality from all sides and there should not be any short of lop-sided development. It is an erroneous one-sidedness of emphasis that has made most people in the world traumatized neurotics, psychopathic patients anti-social elements and harbingers of violence to the brotherhood of man. The illness of man is rooted within him. As long as he is sick inside and this internal malady persists, he cannot be made happy. Economic progress, industrial advancement and military powers cannot make one happy, for these are only attempts to stitch in to a single fabric a tattered garment form to shreds, which can never have the substantiality of a whole. There should be a beautiful system of education which makes man grow like a strong tree, which does not grow merely in parts, so that his understanding, emotion, volition and activity are a harmonious manifestation of his true being and not a dissipated outburst of his uncontrolled urges. The eternal, the relative and the individual have to be recognized in their proper places. “God first, the world next and yourself last”, was a famous saying of H.H. Gurudev Sri Swami Sivanandaji Maharaj. Here is  an entire scripture in a few words for us. Om Shanti. Glory to Gurudev. Glory to Swami Sivanandaji Maharaj! 

8th Maha Samadhi Day of H.H. Sri Swami Pavitranandaji (founder of Sivananda Ashram, Ahmedabad) will be solemnly observed with peace prayer and feeding to the poor on 8th of September (Samadhiday is on 7th September, but observed on 8th). Om Shanti.
