Glories of the Lord Sri Krishna on auspicious Janmashtami  Festival (  Sept 4, 2007)

...."Sri Krishna is not merely a historical man who came and went, like others, but the Eternal Purusha who dwells even now and shall live in the everlasting future, in the core of all manifestation. It is the Symbol of the Absolute descended into relativity that we call Krishna, the ever-beloved protector of all that breathe and air."....
..."Sri Krishna came to reorganise and reconstruct the society of beings on the basis of Dharma. Dharma is the manner by which one directly or indirectly abides and lives in conscience with the Law of the Universal Whole."..... "Mankind forgot the Law, groped in darkness, committed blunders and managed to disturb the equilibrium and harmony of the Universe. There was a reaction from the Whole, to bring back the universe to its essential and natural equilibrium, and the result is Sri Krishna. So Sri Krishna is called an Avatara, a descent of God in the world, of the Whole in the parts, of the Absolute in the relative."....... Swami Sivananda <<More>>

Early Morning Meditation talks from" Ponder These Truths" by Sri Swami Chidananda

What Has to be Known?
"....Two keynotes of sadhanaabhyasa and vairagya—have been placed before us in the Gita by Lord Krishna. He said, "This is the key to success." These twin factors can work miracles for you; they can achieve for you what is seemingly impossible. Fully dwell upon their significance and importance and try to understand their implications."....
..."Integrated knowledge backed up by a high sense of ethical consciousness, and this backed up by resolution and determination not to fail but to succeed—all these things are components of the authentic and genuine spiritual life, not an inferior or middling, but a superior spiritual life".... What is Yoga?  How Yoga can be done ?
 Yoga: Advantages and Suggestions
What is Yoga? The common meaning of the word Yoga is 'to join'. This word is derived from the Sanskrit element 'Yuj'.....Yoga means "maintaining balance" in eating, walking etc. That is why it is said that Yoga means balance in life style. 'Samatvam yoga uchyate.'
In addition to this Shree Krishna has given very beautiful and exact definition of Yoga: 'Yogah karmasu kaushalam'. That means Yoga is one where work is done with dexterity. What is this dexterity in Karma? It means whatever you do, the job should be exact, it should not be soft-padded or like a loosely filled bag: whatever you do, do it well, properly organized.
Maharsi Patanjali defines Yoga as control of the leanings of the mind. 'Yogaschitta vrittinirodhah.' This is the highest aspect of Yoga ..........Swami Adhyatmananda << More>>.

Parables of Sri  Swami Sivananda y I Answer That

Several children were playing on the village street, building houses and acting the part of families etc. One child got annoyed with another and in a fit of anger kicked the house built by the latter. The two began to quarrel over this. "You have destroyed my house; how dare you?" etc. etc. A young man who was watching all this began to laugh at the children's foolishness in quarrelling over the imaginary "houses" made of a handful of mud which were in any case to be destroyed after the play came to an end. An elderly man, however, remarked: "Friend, when you were a young boy, You, too, quarreled like that. Now that you have grown old, you no more take interest in these things. You have acquired the sense of proper valuation of things. Come. let us by all means pacify the children; but you should not laugh at their behaviour."

Similarly, in the world people quarrel over the petty things. They build houses of brick and mud; and quarrel over their possession. This earth itself is just a mud-pile whirling in infinite space. It is created for the time being so that the Jivas might carry on His play. When this play is over, it will be dissolved. Then man with a worldly wisdom laughs at others who quarrel over the objects of the senses. But the sage reminds him that, before gaining the knowledge of the impermanence of the objects, he, too, was behaving like the worldly men. With genuine love and sympathy, he makes people live in peace and gradually enlightens them about the real nature of the mundane objects and the Peace and the Bliss that can be had in the Self.

Food for the Soul

Prayer
"Pray even once from the bottom of your heart. Have a  meek, receptive attitude of mind. Cultivate intense feeling in your heart. The prayer is at once heard and responded. Do this in the daily battle of life and realise for yourself the high efficacy of prayer. You must have strong conviction in the existence of God."
-Swami Sivananda

"Prayer is not asking. It is a longing of the soul. It is daily admission of one's weakness. It is better in prayer to have a heart without words than words without a heart."
-Mahatma Gandhi

"This is the highest form of prayer - prayer not for gaining anything in this world created by Him, but for gaining only the most coveted of all things, Yoga - a constant inner communion and link with Him"
This is true prayer.
-Swami Chidananda
