"O Ram! The light of lights, the self-luminous inner light of the Self is ever shining steadily in the chamber of your heart. Sit quietly. Close your eyes. Withdraw the senses. Fix the mind on this supreme light and enjoy the real Deepavali, by attaining illumination of the soul." "He who Himself sees all but whom no
one beholds, who illumines the intellect, the sun, the moon
and the stars and the whole universe but whom they cannot
illumine, He indeed is Brahman, He is the inner Self.
Celebrate the real Deepavali by living in Brahman, and enjoy
the eternal bliss of the soul." - Swami Sivananda

"Come out of the cage or your little, egoistical, selfish personality. Renounce and sacrifice this selfish personality at the altar of humanity. Where there is no “I”, where there is no mind, where there is no selfishness, there is ideal karma yoga. It becomes upasana (worship). You can be established in a state where even though acting, you are no more acting. Karma or work cannot bind you because you are acting without sense of doership. The feeling “I am doing” is not there; rather, “He is getting it done through me.” You are a witness of your own activity, a witness of your own actions, and the poison of kartritva or sense of doer-ship is removed from the activity; it becomes sublime activity. Then it is God’s will that manifests itself through you. To be established in this state of inner absence of self, one has to diligently pursue a method of sadhana and persist in it, diligently continue to negate the ego, negate the self. It does not come in a day, but it comes if you are persistent".- Swami Chidananda << More>>.

Does purity of food lead to purity of mind? Is non-vegetarian food not Sattvic? We have in the Mahabharata instances of people taking the meat of goats sacrificed to the Lord. Yes, purity of food leads to purity of mind. Aharasuddhau Satvasuddhih. Take a dose of champagne and sit for meditation. Take a dose of orange-juice and sit for meditation. You will know the difference. Different foods exercise different influences on different compartments in the brain. By taking champagne, meat and garlic, the mind will be confused and will become restless when you sit for meditation. By taking milk and fruits, you will get good concentration. Our Rishis lived on fruits and milk. The Chhandogya Upanishad says, "Pure food leads to purity of mind and then one attains Moksha". You should have dietetic discipline. Non-vegetarian food is not Sattvic. It is not good for a seeker. Live for a month on milk and fruits and see. Give up meat for one month and see. Let us be practical. Practical experience will tell you that meat-eating is bad for the mind.
One day Dr. Raoji noticed a dog lying near the office room of the Ashram. It was full of sores and worms. It was clear that it had been in agony for some time. The tender heart of Rao Swamiji bled at the pathetic sight. He gave some medicines and injections and dressed its affected parts with proper bandage and slept near the dog tending it the whole night. When the Ashramites saw this in the morning they were simply dazed. Gurudev remarked that Rao Swamiji was not a man but the very embodiment of compassion |
